Natural Care for Optimal Wellness
More and more people are using natural care to get and stay radiantly healthy. Natural approaches are more conservative and noninvasive than traditional medical approaches. As such, natural methods have significantly fewer side-effects and work with the body to attempt a return to balance. Alternative approaches are often very effective and usually less expensive.
Wise people take responsibility for their own health and make it a priority. They recognize that health is a precious commodity and do everything they can to maintain it. Those interested in total wellness recognize that symptoms are messages from the body that something is awry. They seek to address the causes of these symptoms with natural means whenever possible.
Julian Whitaker, M.D., who has promoted natural healing methods for decades, states, “Getting sick is neither natural nor unavoidable. We know that disease is often caused by the way we live, and by the food, water, and air we put into our bodies… And we’re finding that there are things we can do to not only avoid illness, but actually reverse it! Your body is designed to heal itself naturally and then keep you healthy—IF you know how to help it!”
You only have one body so it’s smart to optimally care for it and hold onto all the original parts. Once organs have been cut out, certain processes don’t function normally. For example, the tonsils and adenoids are important parts of the immune system, the appendix houses beneficial intestinal bacteria, and the gall bladder stores and releases bile to breakdown ingested fats. Removing an organ can have adverse effects on other systems.
Same way with medications. Changing the function of one body part affects that area and other systems. For example, blocking acid production in the stomach interferes with mineral utilization and may lead to fragile bones. It can also allow pathogenic or ‘bad’ bacteria to over- colonize and cause inflammation of the intestines. Drugs that inhibit cholesterol production can also adversely affect liver metabolic pathways that injure muscles and the liver. An increase in deaths from cardiomyopathy, disease of the heart muscle, has been reported since the advent of cholesterol lowering or statin drugs.
The healthiest patients I see are those who take no or minimal prescription medication. Here’s an example. A couple in their mid-nineties looked like vibrantly healthy people in their late sixties. They had very few symptoms, wore big smiles, and after sixty-five years of marriage still held hands like two love birds.
I asked when their last medical exam was. They looked at each other and started laughing. “We haven’t seen a medical doctor since our last one died,” one said. “How long ago was that?” I asked. “1958!”
Now, I’m not recommending this for anyone. I believe we each should have an excellent medical doctor as well as a natural health care team. Both are important when use judiciously.
As I questioned this couple further, I discovered that they had never been inside a McDonald’s restaurant. They did yoga and walked each day and grew a big garden every year. They loved each other along with many family and friends. Their lives reflected the quality of their self-care.
If you desire radiant living, choose natural health care approaches whenever possible. Lovingly care for your body and educate yourself about self-care strategies. Recognize that your body has an inner wisdom, and work with it to attain and maintain ultimate wellness. By doing so, you will help prevent serious health problems that may require invasive medical treatment.
